Accusing the Congress of adopting a “historically malicious policy of calculated discrimination” toward Punjab,SAD president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday held the Gandhi family responsible for the decades long economic regression of Punjab.

Sukhbir, who was in Amritsar to attend a rally in support of SAD-BJP candidate from Amritsar East, said that it was only due to the efforts of SAD-BJP combine that economic downslide has stopped and state entered a higher orbit of sustained socio-economic development.

He said that he wanted to remind Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi that Punjab government “brought the economy back on track during the last five years with farsighted and pro-people policies through emphasis on all round development in general and infrastructure development in particular”.

“They should take some pains to make comparisons of previous Congress government with performance of the present government,” he added. Sukhbir said the Congress was trying to camouflage the SAD-BJP’s achievements as it had nothing in its basket to show.

He added that the Congress had resorted to policies of discrimination from the start “by diverting state’s natural resources against constitutional norms”.
