The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) criticised the Janjagran Abhiyan by the Bharatiya Janata Party, calling it a drama. The Congress also denied the involvement of its leaders in the booth allotment scam and stated that a fair investigation into the matter be conducted.

The BJP has been holding programmes in different parts of the city highlighting the role of Congress leaders in the booth allotment scam. This follows the report of the former Addition District Commissioner P S Shergill highlighting the anomalies in the allotment of booths in Sector 41. The report is lying with the Administration with no action being taken.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, senior leader of the Congress party,Subhash Chawla said that BJP has started such a campaign in wake of the approaching elections to the Municipal Corporation (MC). “The BJP leaders are using foul language against Congress leaders and are distributing erroneous and derogatory literature. It does not suit a party of the stature of BJP. These actions reflect the character of the party and makes a mockery of democracy,” he said.

Chawla added,“The BJP has been disrupting the proceedings of the General House of the Municipal Corporation. The booths were not constructed on Municipal Corporation land or allotted by officials of the civic body. Discussion on development agendas should take place in the House which is not happening.”

Chawla added that BJP should look into the scams by its own leaders in Karnataka,Uttarakhand,Himachal Pradesh,Bihar,Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. He said that Congress councillor Pardeep Chhabra was being targeted due to his proximity with Union Minister Pawan Bansal.

Chhabra said that BJP has never raised its voice against scams in the city like the teachers recruitment scam, conductors recruitment scam, etc. He said,“The BJP seems to be scared of the officials. The BJP should come out with the names of people where booths have been given to those not having licenses. We are ready for a debate with the party.”
