It’s a low key International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) weekend in Colombo,Sri Lanka. The much-bandied about big names like the Bachchans,Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar are missing amidst threats of a boycott by the South film fraternity. The Sri Lankan administration meanwhile is not taking any chances,a huge cover of police is deployed all over the city. Even the media was given a police escort from the airport to the IIFA venue. In times of crisis,IIFA is banking on Salman Khan, who in his brand new role as IIFAs Ambassador of Change,is now holding fort. Meanwhile here are the sidelights of the Colombo sojourn:
The Big Miss
Even as he decided to skip his long association preferring instead to be with the lions in Gir, Amitabh Bachchan remained at the top of his colleagues minds in Colombo. Salman Khan expressed this sentiment by saying,Mr Bachchan should have been here. Even if a small section has some problem with our presence here,we need to show brotherhood and solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka who love us. Just a smile and a wave will make them happy. On the other hand,Vivek Oberoi declared,An institution is much above an individual. The show has to go on. Now over to the Big B. Guess for that, well need to track his blog or tweets.
The Dabangg team of Salman,Sohail and Sonakshi Sinha were the star attraction of the Sri Lankan Airlines red eye. While the Khan Brothers got first class treatment, newbie Sonakshi and brother,Luv,had to travel in economy. While Luv settled in without a murmur,Sonakshi didnt look too happy. Enter the chivalrous Sohail, who exchanged his seat with the Dabanng girl who incidentally celebrated her 22nd birthday on Wednesday. The Khans are all about the charm, arent they?
