No cause to invoke the Mahatma
At his press conference,Pratap Chautala,an INLD leader,said that whereas khap panchayats were right in opposing same gotra marriages and demanding reservation for the Jat community,but they should resort to Gandhigiri to press forth with their demands. Before offering his advice and resorting to the name of the Mahatama,the politician needs to remember that all his life,the Father of the Nation preached against discrimination,whereas all the demands of khap panchayats are based on differentiation and discrimination. The only way,they can pay a tribute to the great man is to let those who love,live in peace.

Dollar allergy
Irked at the repeated use of foreign currency (dollars) by a lawyer to denote the amount of loan payable by its client,Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal expressed his anguish. I am severely allergic to dollars,why cant you use rupees,lakhs or crores. We are a sovereign nation. Why are you people so enamoured with United States of America?

Planetary emotion
Last Friday offered a spectacular celestial spectacle in which Mars,Saturn,Venus and the crescent moon were visible together in the night sky. While most people enjoyed the astronomical view,some astrologers unnecessarily scared some gullible people. An astrological SMS doing rounds cautioned people to keep their cell phones switched off because of proximity of the Mars to earth. A senior professional with a peripheral interest in astrology paid heed to this one only to deeply regret it later. During the hours,her phone was switched off,her daughter met with a serious accident and sustained severe injuries. The child was unable to reach her mother and eventually managed to get through to her only through some family friends.
All in all,yet another instance of rationality succumbing to orthodoxy under highly unfortunate circumstances as seen in the case.
