Cooking trouble

A senior police officer found himself in a soup (pun intended) after his cook registered a police complaint against his wife who had allegedly slapped him. The cook, however, withdrew the complaint. Talking to mediapersons,he said,“Sahib personally apologised. He also said sorry on his wife’s behalf. He is very polite. I don’t have anything else to say.”

Fair drill?

Mock drills of women cops dealing with an agitated crowd got much applause from an enraptured audience at the police parade on Monday. The naysayers, however, doubted the efficacy of the fairer sex’s modus operandi of shoving away the crowd with shouts of peeche hato (move back). “I doubt whether this would work, when an agitated crowd is throwing stones at you,” said a sceptic in the audience.

Shortly after the Punjab Chief Minister and his son were acquitted by the special court in Mohali in a corruption case that was registered seven years ago, their supporters were quick to raise slogans in their favour. But Deputy CM was quick to snub them and point to the decorum of the court. “These are court premises. Such things,if they are to be done at all, have be done outside the premises,” he rebuked his supporters. The Chief Minister too stood with folded hands, when judge called his name.

General (un)awareness

UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas these days is being flooded with requests from aspirants for the jobs of conductors for favouring them in selection. As one such aspirant came to his office, the Home Secretary asked him who was the president of the country. As the prospective candidate fumbled to find an answer,Niwas asked the candidate how can someone not knowing the name of the president of the country be accepted for a job. The ‘aspirant’ was at a loss for words.

‘Wisdom’ at a heavy cost

The “wisdom” to argue his case by himself showing little confidence in the state’s highest law officer,Advocate General Hawa Singh Hooda not only cost Praveen Kumar,Deputy Commissioner,Faridabad, dear but also earned him wrath of the lawyers. Let alone the strictures passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, lawyers present in the court including those assisting the Advocate General could not resist themselves from stopping Kumar who seemed to be in no mood to stop arguing. “Who told him to argue his case? Does he have no faith in the Advocate General. We will not represent him the next time,” said one of the lawyers.

Fireworks at MC

After councillors and officials of the Municipal Corporation who were at loggerheads,it is now the turn of the officials. Fireworks were witnessed in the office of the civic body owing to a tussle between the Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria and Joint Commissioner Lalit Siwach. The two had heated arguments after Sunkaria asked Siwach to attend the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee while the latter had been named the duty magistrate in the wake of the Ayodhya verdict. Siwach had not been too keen on a posting in the civic body. However, end of the day he seemed to have the last laugh after orders for his promotion to the post of Additional Commissioner were received.
