Examinations were scheduled to start today; both teachers and students clueless about schedule
Owing to the dispute over the position of principal at DAV College,Sector 10,students are confused about the examinations scheduled Thursday onwards. Dr B C Josan, the suspended principal, was seen on duty at the principals office after the Punjab and Haryana High Court retained him as principal for the next two days. On the other hand, even a day after Dr Josan issued a notice of postponement of exams, neither Professor Shashi Gupta, the principal appointed by the committee, nor the committee itself have taken any action on this.
The DAV College Managing Committee, though, has prepared a detailed,400-page list of charges against Dr Josan and arguments in favour of their decision to suspend him. This again is a more elaborate list; the previous list was of only four charges and mentioned only 10 charges against him. The committee has already forwarded copies to Dr Josan and Panjab University (PU).
The university has received a detailed chargesheet against Dr Josan from the DAV College Managing Committee. It has been forwarded to the legal retainer Anupam Gupta for his advice on the matter, said Professor R C Sobti,Vice-Chancellor,PU.
Though there were no more protests at the college on Wednesday, classes were purportedly disrupted owing to the confusion over examinations. The students were seen outside the principals office and the staff room to enquire about the status of the examinations.
The students complained that every time they went to the office to enquire about examinations, they were turned back without any definite answer. Till 1 pm there was no confirmation or clarity over it. Surprisingly, even the teachers were clueless about the status.
It has been learnt that even the college Controller of Examinations Prof Vinod Sharma, who had also signed the notice issued and signed by the principal, had no clue about the examination schedule. When we contacted the college controller to clarify the confusion,we were told that though he has signed the notice,he has no information about it, said a college student on condition of anonymity.
While Dr Josan refused to comment on the issue, the notice issued by him on Tuesday about the cancellation of exams till further notice was still on display at the staff room.
After todays decision by the High Court, nobody knows if the examinations will be conducted as per schedule or postponed. If the exams are postponed,it is likely to be conducted this month or by the first week of next month,as the college is closing from October 2-10, said senior teacher on condition of anonymity.
