PGI researcher wins best paper award
Chandigarh: Subhabrata Sarkar,a PhD student at the Department of Virology,PGIMER,was honoured with the Best paper presentation award for his original research work on ‘Cytokine gene polymorphism and its association with viral Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in Indian population’. The award ceremony was recently held at the International Conference on Cardiomyopathy Research,2013 at PGIMER,Chandigarh.
Gender-specific knee implants introduced
Mohali: Dr Harsimran,Additional Director,Department of Joint Replacement,Fortis Hospital,Mohali,on Wednesday introduced gender-specific knee implants,specially tailored to fit the anatomy of women,thereby increasing mobility and minimising pain post knee replacement operations. Harsimran said,Osteoarthritis is twice as common in women,as compared to men,and the number of Indian women opting for knee replacement has risen significantly.
Medical camp held in Mauli Jagran
Chandigarh: A medical camp was organised at Government Model High School,Vikas Nagar,Mauli Jagran,by the State Resource Centre under the aegis of the Department of Psychiatry,Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,Chandigarh,on Wednesday. Experts from psychiatry,eye and ENT departments of the hospital examined the patients.
