Well-being of women discussed
Chandigarh: Over 70 students from Post Graduate Government College for Girls,Sector 11,attended a workshop on ‘women’s well-being and health’ on Tuesday. The two-day workshop organised by Hum Hain’,society for gender equality and non-discrimination of college,focused on emotional and physical well being. Body processes,beauty myths reproductive rights and awareness of reproduction were also discussed. College principal Achila Dogra stressed on the importance of maintaining a good emotional quotient and being physically strong,active and healthy.
Hotel management students need right channel
Chandigarh: A faculty-development programme,Insight,was organised at Chandigarh College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology,Landran,on Tuesday to help teachers enhance their acumen to meet the standards set by the international industry. With more international hotel chains coming to India and with the job market for Indian hotel management professionals opening globally,there is need to give students the right channel and approach, said Prof M Mandan, management academician.
Mohali student attends Harvard MUN
Chandigarh: Ishwarj Singh (24),student of international business at Taaleem College of International Studies (TCIS),Mohali,participated in the 59th session of Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN-2013) organised recently by 200 undergraduates of Harvard University,USA. Ishwarj represented a committee which was part of the specialised agencies at the HNMUN 2013 conducted from February 14 to 17 at Boston Park Plaza Hotel,USA. There were ten committees in the specialised agencies,and these were formed with around 175 delegates from across the world. Ishwarj said,We debated and took decisions that suited my country the most.
‘India-Nepal relations go beyond peace treaty’
Chandigarh: The nature of India-Nepal relation has been defined and determined by the territorial contiguity and enduring historical and cultural linkages. Though many argue that the 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship defines the relation between the two countries,relation goes beyond it, said retired Ambassador Deb Mukharji,while delivering a lecture at Center for Research in Rural and Industrial Development on Tuesday. He added what concerned India lately were the wider ramifications of open border,increasing entrenchment of China in Nepal,sharing of water resources and inclusion of Gurkhas in the Indian Army. As far as border issue is concerned,it is up to the governments of India and Nepal to discuss on the management of border.
Brig B S Gill is state director of veteran body
Panchkula: The War Decorated,India,has recently appointed Brig B S Gill as its Punjab and Chandigarh state director. He will now co-ordinate matters relating to the welfare of war decorated,veer naris,widows,veterans and their dependents with the governments of Punjab,UT administration and other agencies. Brig Gill is a veteran of 1971 Indo-Pak war and was awarded the Vir Chakra and Prakram Padak for conspicuous acts of bravery.
IT dept to hold e-governance training
Chandigarh: The Department of Information Technology,Chandigarh Administration,is organising advanced trainings on e-Governance for the officers of various departments. The department,through its Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC),has already imparted basic level training on e-Governance to over 100 employees. Participants at these trainings include the principals of government schools,officials of the National Rural Health Mission (Chandigarh),Transport Department and Engineering Department.
Kaushik gets charge of industries centre
Chandigarh: The UT Administrator has handed over the charge of Director Industries-cum-General Manager,District Industries Centre,UT Chandigarh to Mahavir Kaushik,HCS,registering and Licensing Authority,UT,Chandigarh,in addition of his own duties,relieving Balbir Singh,PCS,of this additional charge.
Pharmacists body holds protest
Chandigarh: The members of Rural Health Pharmacist Association,Punjab,staged demonstration in front of the department of rural development and panchayat,Mohali,Sector 62,demanding the regularisation of the jobs of eligible pharmacists employed in rural dispensaries. Kulraj Singh,President,Rural Health Association,Punjab said: Our demand is that the Punjab government must regularise all 1,000 eligible pharmacists,who have been working at several rural dispensaries from 2006.
Anti-encroachment drive held in Sector 26
Chandigarh: The UT Estate Office on Tuesday held an anti-encroachment drive and removed 45 illegal sheds and jhuggies from Grain Market,Sector 26. The drive was carried out following several complaints received by the Estate Office from various members of the market committee. The drive was conducted by a team of officials of the UT Estate office and police personnel.
