Electricity committee holds meeting on streetlights

The electricity committee of the Municipal Corporation in a meeting held Monday discussed the pitiable state of streetlights in the city. The members rued that despite promises by officials,the situation has not been improved. The members demanded a report on decisions taken by the committee earlier. It was recommended that a modal officer be appointed who would co-ordinate with the administration for ensuring that lights function.

Several injured as truck,car collide

Chandigarh: A truck overturned after colliding with a car around 3.30 am on Sunday. The bonnet of the car was crushed while the truck overturned due to the impact of the collision. Chandigarh police have not registered an FIR in the case as they are still investigating the cause of the accident and the offending vehicle. The passengers as well as the drivers of both the vehicles sustained injuries and were admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital -32.

Amogh Division celebrates 42nd Raising Day

Chandigarh: The Amogh Division,raised on July 15,1972 celebrated its 42nd Raising Day Monday. The raising day festivities included a Barakhana and a Special Sainik Sammelan. General Officer Commanding,Amogh division,Maj Gen N C Badhoni also paid homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at Shaurya Sthal at the military station.

MBBS,BDS courses postponed: GMCH-32

CHandigarh: The Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,has postponed the MBBS and BDS courses. As per an official,“The centralised counselling of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses for the session 2013-14 is hereby postponed till further information. Changed dates will be notified in due course.”

Man arrested for hitting woman with sword

Chandigarh: A resident of Mauli Jagran Complex was arrested by Chandigarh police on Saturday afternoon after he allegedly hit a woman with a sword in a state of intoxication. According to the police,accused Rahul Verma had personal enmity with the victim’s husband,Rakesh. In the early hours of Saturday,the accused allegedly smashed the window panes of Rakesh’s car. Thereafter,in the afternoon around 2.30,the accused in an alleged drunken state came with a sword and attacked the victim,Seema. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 323,341,506 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code at Manimajra police station.

Man robbed of laptop,Rs 74,000

Chandigarh: A resident of Dhanas village alleged that an unknown person stole his laptop and Rs 74,000 cash after smashing the window pane of his car. According to police,victim Ranjit Singh Brar had gone to watch a movie at Fun Republic Mall between 11am and 2pm on Sunday. In the meanwhile,the thief broke the back window pane of the car and stole the belongings. A case has been registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code at Manimajra police station.

Miscreants snatch money from Pali resident

Chandigarh: A resident of Pali village,Pauri Garhwal,alleged that an unknown person on a motorcycle fled away after snatching Rs 3,961 from him at CITCO petrol pump in Sector 38. According to the police,victim Vinod Kumar works at the same petrol station from where the incident of snatching took place on Sunday. A case has been registered under Section 356 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 39 police station.

Programme on attitudinal change for cops

CHANDIGARH: To inculcate a sense of discipline,integrity and responsibility among personnel towards policing activities,a three-day programme on ‘attitudinal change’ organised by the Chandigarh Police began on Monday. A batch of 50 head constables are being briefed about attitudinal development and ways to improve it. The programme is being held at Recruit Training Centre,Sector 26,under the guidance of IGP R P Upadhyaya and is being supervised by R S Ghumman,Senior Superintendent of Police,Operations & Training.
