City trader’s murder: ‘Killer’ couple in police custody for 2 days

The prosecution sought a seven-day police remand of the arrested couple on the grounds of recovering the weapon used in crime,the victim’s mobile phone and motorcycle and Mintu’s auto-rickshaw,in which drove to the scene of crime.

Soon after procuring custody,however,the investigation officials recovered Tiwari’s mobile phone and the spade,which was allegedly used to execute the crime. While the spade was recovered from Mintu,Manisha led to the police to place where she had hidden the cell phone,said Investigation Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar.

The victim’s motorcycle,around Rs 1 lakh in cash and other valuables are still missing.

According to the police,Tiwari,who ran a readymade garment store in Sector 19,Chandigarh,was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with Manisha for the last three months. On Wednesday night,Manisha asked Tiwari to meet her in Palsora,from where both rode on Tiwari’s bike to a deserted area behind Dara Studio in Phase VI,Mohali. Mintu,who followed them in his auto-rickshaw,allegedly attacked Tiwari with a spade while Manisha engaged Tiwari in a conversation.

Tiwari is survived by his wife and two minor children.

PROUD ‘KILLER’
After confessing to the crime,Mintu says he does not regret committing the murder. “I have no qualms. Rather,I am proud to have killed the person,who had illicit relations with my wife,” said Mintu while interacting with reporters outside the court. He said after coming to know of the affair,he had repeatedly requested Tiwari to end the relationship. “But when he failed to pay heed to my pleas,I was forced to murder him,” Mintu confessed,while confiding that he also wanted to kill his wife but dropped the plan keeping in view the future of his three minor children.

“If I did not have children,I would have killed my wife as well,” he declared.
