To get more animals of exotic breeds, the Chhatbir zoo conducted an animal-exchange programme on the zoo premises on Sunday. Under the programme,a pair of gorals- the mountain oat,one male baboon and around 40 bazrigars- a kind of beautiful exotic birds were sent to the Delhi zoo. The Chattbir zoo will receive one male jaguar and a male baboon in exchange of these animals. The male baboon exchange is being done to improve the genetic variability of these animals at the Delhi zoo.

R C Nayar, financial commissioner, forest and wildlife preservation, said the pairing of single animals with high exchange value is being given priority by the Chhatbir zoo management. As a part of this process, the zoo had received one female baboon from mini zoo in Pipli last month.
