Sent letters on fake letterheads of terrorist outfit
A Local chemist was on Thursday arrested by the police for allegedly intimidating and demanding ransom from a woman doctor.
The accused had allegedly sent letters using fake letterheads of terrorist outfits to threaten the victim and demand ransom from her.
A senior police officer disclosed that on receiving a complaint from the woman doctor,practicing in Kumbra village,adjoining Sector 69 here,the police found Kirat Singh,who ran a chemist shop in the same village,guilty of allegedly intimidating the woman doctor.
In a complaint to the local last month,Dr Sangeet Goyal reported that she has received a number of letters on the letterheads of dreaded ultra organisations,demanding Rs 45 lakh ransom per month or leave the place otherwise she would be killed.
The letters were computerised written in Punjabi and were mailed through post.
During thorough investigation,the local police special branch cell questioned the local chemist on the basis of suspicion and when he was put under sustained interrogation,he allegedly admitted to the crime,claimed the police official.
The chemist reportedly confessed before the police that ever since the woman doctor had begun practice in his vicinity,his business was badly affected and in a bid to get rid of the obstacle,he opted to threaten her under the garb of ultras.
Booked under Sections 387 and 506 of the IPC,the accused was produced before a local court,which remanded him to one-day police remand.
We will confiscate the computer and other material used for preparing the letters and will question the accused,if he has any links with any terrorist organisations or who else was involved with him, added the police official.
