Chemist body boycotts auction of PGI chemist shops

Two shops were to be auctioned on Thursday

Auction of two chemist shops at PGIMER by the hospital authorities failed to elicit a response as the Chemist Association decided to boycott the auction owing to stringent terms and conditions.

Two shops were to be auctioned on Thursday. Many chemists did not participate in the process complaining of that extremely high cost of running a chemist shop and that added tax liabilities have hit margins considerably.

A member of the body said that the annual increase of 10 per cent in rent was a turn-off. Some of the conditions mentioned for the applicants included that licensee shall himself remain present at all times at the shop premises, depositing four month’s security and 5 months’ bank guarantee and there is no time limit for PGIMER to refund of security.
