Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainees Vikrant Dahiya and Digvijay Pratap Singh registered contrasting victories over their respective opponents and their sparkling displays lit up an otherwise dull day in the boys U-16 singles category in the PFA CLTA-AITA Championship Series being played at CLTA Complex in Sector 10,on Tuesday. While Dahiya overpowered Eklavya 4-1,4-1 to book his berth in the semi-finals,Digvijay ended the challenge of Mritunajay with a 4-3,4-2 win.
Despite the nip in the air,Dahiya started off well and hit the ball well to put Eklavya on the backfoot. His feet movement on the court was excellent and he hit some powerful shots from the baseline. As a result,Dahiya won the first set 4-1. He was even more menacing in the second set, mixing his shots as he used drop shots to perfection and won points with ease. Eklavya tried hard but failed to stop Dahiya from annexing the second set also.
Digvijay,on the other hand, faced a stiff challenge from Mritunajay in the first set but still laboured to a scrappy win. He came good in the second set and played some good shots to take the set 4-2.
Meanwhile, top seed Param Pun continued his fine form in the tournament, losing just one game in his 4-1,4-0 win over Himanshu. Pun looked at ease and won the first set 4-1 while he was nearly flawlessly in the second set and thrashed his opponent 4-0 to win the match.
In the last quarter-final in the boys’ category,Nihit Rawal had to fight hard to carve out a 4-1,5-3 win over Saurav Kalkal. Rawal easily won the first set but Kalkal put up a brave fight in the second set. However,Rawal kept his nerves to win by 5-3 to march into the last four stage.
