Chandigarh reports its first H1N1 case

Influenza A (H1N1) has hit the city again. A PGI staff nurse has tested positive of the virus. This is the first positive case of swine flu in the city.

Influenza A (H1N1) has hit the city again. A PGI staff nurse has tested positive of the virus. This is the first positive case of swine flu in the city.

The 30-year-old resident of Sector 35 was admitted to Fortis hospital in Mohali where the authorities sent her blood samples to their sister concern laboratory in Gurgaon. After the tests turned out to be positive,doctors at PGI were informed. The PGI has its own testing laboratory.

The family of the nurse has been given medicine and has been quarantined.

Speaking to Newsline,Dr J C Bansal from PGI said,“The nodal officers of our hospital have been informed and the initial precautions have been taken. All those who have shown signs of the flu have been advised to get their samples tested here.”

Meanwhile,message has been sent to all government hospitals in the city to take necessary precautions. The flu had spread last summers and till winters around 100 positive cases had been reported from the city. There were a dozen of deaths,too.

Recently,two cases from Jalandhar and Amritsar had tested positive,respectively. The doctors have warned residents to be careful and avoid physical contact at gatherings.
