More than 100 golfers will take part in the LG Chandigarh Amateur Championship, which will be held at Chandigarh Golf Club from Tuesday. The championship will also see a pre-tournament round today, which will see the participation of 120 golfers from all over the country.
Rashid Khan,two-time winner this year, and Abhishek Jha will not be taking part in the championship as they are taking part in the Singapore Amateur Championship.
“The pre-tournament round will be played on Monday and all the golfers will be taking part in the event. The course is playing well despite the untimely rain a couple of weeks ago and we are sure that conditions will be fantastic during the event. The staff at the club has done a wonderful job for preparing the course and all the golfers are excited to play here in these conditions,” said HS Kang, chairman, tournament handicap category.
Kang, also taking part in the event, said the players will be facing a tough challenge in the next few days. “The players will find the conditions here bit tough as the course is playing but rough. But it will be a challenge for all of us and we all believe that all of us have a fair chance of winning the tournament at this time of the year. I hope that the weather stays fine during this week and we all get to see good golf,” shared Kang, who is lying tenth in the national amateur order of merit list.
Kang was also of the view that the absence of Rashid Khan and Abhishek Jha will not matter much and golfers like Ashbeer Saini and S Chikkarangappa will be a force to reckon with in the tournament.
“Both Rashid and Jha have been playing well over the past few months but their absence will not mean that things will be easy for us. We have got very talented youngsters in the form of Saini and Chikkarangappa and I hope they will be strong title contenders for this tournament,” said Kang.
