Chandigarh Mayor Anup Gupta on Sunday said the City Beautiful will turn into a mini Ayodhya on Monday to mark the consecration of the Ram Mandir in the Uttar Pradesh town.

Speaking to The Indian Express, he said, “This evening (Sunday), we will be using over 3,000 diyas (earthen lamps) to form an image of Ram ji’s dhanush (bow and arrow) at Sector 17 Plaza. While tomorrow (Monday), we will light up the miniature Ram Mandir with more than 11,000 diyas. We have also appointed a pandit to conduct puja (rituals) at the pandal.”

The mayor added that a ‘light tunnel’ has been set up near the Sector 34 ground to give devotees “a feel of being in the Lord’s home.”
