In a move to uphold the city’s cleanliness standards, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has issued a challan to the Junior Engineer of the Horticulture Wing, Chandigarh Administration, for failing to lift horticulture pruning waste in a timely manner.
Earlier, the Municipal Corporation had served a notice on the JE concerned for not clearing the accumulated pruning waste along Dakshin Marg near the Sector 21 petrol pump. The notice had clearly stated that if the waste was not removed within the stipulated time, strict action, including issuance of a challan, would follow. As the waste remained uncleared beyond the notice period, the challan has now been handed over.
The Chandigarh MC reiterated that delay in lifting horticulture waste leads to inconvenience to commuters, contributes to littering, and affects the city’s environmental hygiene. Ensuring timely disposal is the responsibility of the field staff concerned, and any lapse will continue to attract strict action.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar appealed to all departments, agencies, and residents to join hands with the Municipal Corporation in maintaining cleanliness across Chandigarh. He emphasised that keeping the city clean is a collective responsibility, and urged all to refrain from littering in public spaces.
“The MC Chandigarh affirmed its commitment to enforcing sanitation norms strictly and ensuring that every stakeholder fulfills their role in preserving the city’s status as one of the cleanest urban spaces in the country,” a statement said.
