Patients visiting the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) can now get information about the availability of doctors on the display boards, which will be put near the registration counters of the out patient department (OPD) at the hospital.
The Advance Cardiac Centre has become the first department to put a board near the OPD.
PGI officials said so far the administration has put a display board near the registration centre of the cardiac centre OPD so that the patients could know about the availability of the doctors.

Information about those doctors who are on leave will also be available on the board. The officials said the initiative has been launched on a pilot basis and it would be extended to other centers of the hospital later.
“For the moment, we are only providing the information about the doctors who are working and who are on leave. Later, these boards would be put in patients wards as well, so that the visitors can quickly find about the patients, where are they admitted,” said an official.
The official added, “This initiative has been taken after the hospital received complaints from the patients that they had to roam from one place to another to get information about the doctors. We would see how this initiative would go for the first month and a call will be taken later about starting it in other centers.”
Yash Paul Sharma, a professor and head of the cardiology department said through these boards, people who come from outside, can know about the availability of the doctors.
“In most of the cases, it would help the follow up patients, whether the doctors treating the patients are available. This initiative is helping the patients.”
Public relations officer of PGI Manju Wadalkar said the aim of the initiative is to “provide the information to the patients, if the doctor are available or not.”
The patients visiting the OPD expressed happiness over the PGI administration’s initiative. “I am coming for the first time here. This is good that we have information about how many doctors are available in the OPD and also about those who are on leave,” said Gulshan Kaur, a resident of Bhatinda, who had come for heart treatment.
