The weather in Chandigarh has taken a chilly turn, plunging temperatures below even those in Srinagar and Shimla. On Tuesday, Chandigarh hit a maximum of 10.5 degrees Celsius, marking it as the coldest day the city has experienced in the last five years.
Comparatively, Srinagar recorded 14.2 degrees Celsius, while Shimla reached 12.6 degrees Celsius, making Chandigarh the chilliest among the three. The city’s recent temperatures have been notably lower than the averages in January over the past few years. For instance, January 2023 saw Chandigarh at 11.1 degrees Celsius, while January 2022 stood at 11 degrees Celsius, and January 2021 at 11.1 degrees Celsius.
During this season, both day and night in Chandigarh have witnessed a substantial drop in temperatures. December recorded a daytime high of 15.1 degrees Celsius. The mercury plunged to a low of 5.7 degrees Celsius on January 4, with Tuesday’s minimum reaching 8.2 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday’s temperature was a stark deviation of six degrees from the average, with the forecast indicating mainly clear skies but moderate to dense fog for the next two days in Chandigarh.
