“Ghar khareedungi, bachcho ko doctor banaungi (Will buy my own house and make my children doctors),” Reshma Bano proclaims her dreams, which looked far-fetched even two years back.

Ever since her husband Dr Yaseen Khan — who was a senior resident doctor at Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital — died after a RTV (Rapid Transit Vehicle) bus ran over his scooter in May 2023, it has been difficult for Bano and her three children to make ends meet.

Denied adequate compensation by the company that insured the bus, she was dependent on her parents for her daily bread and her children’s education.
