Two years after doctor died in accident in Delhi, family to get Rs 2.92 crore as compensation

“Ghar khareedungi, bachcho ko doctor banaungi (Will buy my own house and make my children doctors),” Reshma Bano proclaims her dreams, which looked far-fetched even two years back.
Ever since her husband Dr Yaseen Khan — who was a senior resident doctor at Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital — died after a RTV (Rapid Transit Vehicle) bus ran over his scooter in May 2023, it has been difficult for Bano and her three children to make ends meet.

Denied adequate compensation by the company that insured the bus, she was dependent on her parents for her daily bread and her children’s education.
However, on Monday, the family saw some relief with District Judge and Additional Sessions Judge Shelly Arora of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Saket Court, passing an order instructing the insurance company to grant a compensation of Rs 2.92 crore to Dr Khan’s family.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bano said, “The last two years have not been easy for me and my children. My parents have supported me and we had a tough time trying to pay for the education of the children and other necessary needs.”

Overjoyed at the verdict, Bano said the first thing she will do with the money she receives from the compensation would be to build a house and work on securing her children’s future.
“Their father was a doctor and it was his dream to make the children doctors too. I will utilise the compensation amount towards their education and ensure that my husband’s dream is achieved,” Bano added.
On the legal battle, Bano’s lawyer Sumit Chaudhary said, “The insurance company had initially offered an amount but we did not accept it as we wanted to fight for justice. Dr Khan’s family spent their hard-earned money to educate him. He had also got selected for the armed forces but he didn’t join…”
“Bano’s family is very happy with the compensation granted by the court, as it will help secure the future of the children,” he added.
