Buoyed by a superb century by Angad Chahal (103),visitors Chandigarh emerged as the winners against Patiala on the basis of the first innings lead in the final of the Punjab State Inter-District U-16 Cricket Tournament for ML Markan Trophy played at Dhruv Pandove Stadium,Patiala on Wednesday.

In reply to Patiala’s first innings total of 294,Chandigarh ended their first innings at 303 for 9 in 95 overs and won the match on the basis of first innings lead.

After Chandigarh resumed at their overnight score of 43 for 1,Angad Chahal and Pankaj Rawat were associated in a third wicket stand of 141 runs. Pankaj Rawat played a patient knock of 67 runs which consisted four boundaries while Angad Chahal blasted the opposition attack. During his 232-ball stay at the crease,Chahal blasted 11 boundaries and guided Chandigarh to a respectable fist innings total. Chandigarh’s cause was also helped by a vital 63-run stand for ninth wicket between Mainder Singh and Arun Sarohi. Singh played a knock of 35 runs which consisted of four boundaries while Sarohi contributed 33 runs. For Patiala,Karan Kalia picked up four wickets for 130 runs while Sukhwinder Singh claimed three wickets for 113 runs.

Patiala were 183 for 4 in 26 overs in their second innings when play ended. Vivek Rahal played a breezy knock of 83 runs off 61 balls while Karan Walia contributed 27 runs. Rahal smashed six boundaries while Kalia blasted three boundaries. Kanwar remained unbeaten on 22 runs while Pradeep remained unbeaten on 8.

For Chandigarh,Veer Karan Goyal claimed one wicket for 61 runs while Mainder Singh claimed one wicket for 35 runs.

Earlier in their first innings,Patiala could manage a score of 294 runs in 91.3 overs on Tuesday. Viren Rahal was the top scorer for Patiala in their first innings playing a knock of 72 runs while Kunwar Pal contributed 58 runs. Karan Kalia and Shivin Goyal contributed 29 and 26 runs respectively. For Chandigarh,Veer Karan Goyal claimed four wickets for 99 runs while Mainder Singh claimed 4 for 54 runs.
