Taking the centralised admission for BCom that was introduced last year a step forward, the entire process from application to processing to counselling will made be online this year. Students would be relieved from being personally present for even counselling at the University campus and allotted seats in the college of their preference while sitting at home. Last year it was only online application and centralised counselling at Panjab University (PU) and other designated centres in Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur.
In addition to the online convenience for applicants requiring them to fill only one form for as many colleges as one wishes to apply for,the reach will also be increased this year. Instead of only 4,340 seats in 26 colleges situated in the cities of Chandigarh,Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur, all the colleges in the districts of Chandigarh,Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur would be included in the centralised online admission process. This would come out to be more than 50 colleges, both government and private, and as many as 9,000 seats.
With the success of the centralised admission process introduced just last year,we have decided to evolve it further in its second year. The entire process will be online and students will only be required to visit the college allotted to them to deposit the admission fee. They can apply online, the processing of applications on behalf of the university too will be online and even counselling will be online, said project Chief Coordinator Prof A K Vashisht.
The PU Department of Computer Science is developing a software for the centralised admission system. An application is being framed where the students would be asked to rank colleges according to their preference. Students would be given time to deposit the fee in the allotted college, failing which the seat would be resumed and accordingly allotted to the students in the waiting list.
The application procedure is expected to start in May. To assess the ground realities and get suggestions to make the admission process more transparent and efficient,Prof Vashisht had already called meetings of college representatives.
We have already sought details from all colleges in Chandigarh and the districts of Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana about the number of BCom seats available with them, provision of hostel facilities, fee structures and other related details, informed Prof Vashisht.
