The association stated that during July-August 2025, not only were the services of these 42 professors terminated, but their self-financed courses, PLA-funded positions, and the salaries of teachers appointed in 2019 were also withheld. As many as 42 teachers working in various colleges of Chandigarh have been awaiting their salaries.
The Higher Education Department, Chandigarh Administration, had terminated the services of 42 contract assistant professors working in government colleges for rationalisation.
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Chandigarh, subsequently had reinstated their services. However, these teachers have not received their salaries for the past three months. This was stated by the Association of Assistant Professors (Contractual) Government Colleges, Chandigarh.
The association stated that all teachers had resumed their duties on time after the CAT order, but the lack of salaries demotivated them. They stated that despite repeated requests via letters, emails, and in court, to the administration, they received no response. The association stated that many teachers are now being unable to meet their family needs.
The association stated that during July-August 2025, not only were the services of these 42 professors terminated, but their self-financed courses, PLA-funded positions, and the salaries of teachers appointed in 2019 were also withheld. Despite the CAT order, many colleges failed to comply immediately, leaving teachers in financial distress during the festive season as well.
“In July 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs requested a detailed report from the Chandigarh Administration and recommended a policy for teachers with more than 10 years of service. The association stated that the administration has not yet responded to this matter. Chandigarh’s litigation policy states that the award of a contract employee will also benefit other similarly situated employees,” the association said.
It was also mentioned that contrary to this, teachers are being forced to repeatedly approach the courts and fight lengthy legal battles. Only 42 out of 122 teachers received relief in the order while the remaining similar petitions are pending.
The association demanded that pending salaries should be released immediately as per the CAT order of October 6, 2025. They also demanded that the regularisation policy should be formulated and implemented soon.
