The Chandigarh Art Theatre (CAT) is back with its new production — Ajaat Ghar (without caste) — written by noted playwright Rameshwar Prem and directed by Shyam Juneja. Established in 1980,CAT has remained dedicated to street theatre, picking up relevant social issues. Set in a village in Bihar,Ajaat Ghar starts with communal riots that have erupted during a fair. The play has two male characters — played by Guddu Saini and Ranjit Roy — take shelter in a damaged house that has been the target of rioters. Through conversations and introspection, the characters realise that the outer world has become a dangerous place to live in,where people fight in the name of god. “The play brings to fore the point that every citizen should have the liberty to live anywhere in the country without any fear. Ajaat Ghar ends with the dialogue “ye ghar kis ka hai?’,” says the director. The music and light effects for the production have been done by Nalin Gopal. Ajaat Ghar will be staged on December 22 at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16, Chandigarh,at 6.30 pm
