Capt doubts CM will contest 2012 elections

State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday expressed serious doubts over Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal contesting the 2012 Assembly elections.

State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday expressed serious doubts over Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal contesting the 2012 Assembly elections.

“So far,the CM he has not been able to identify any safe Assembly constituency for himself. I believe Badal will beat a safe and graceful retreat without contesting the elections,as he will not like to call it quits after getting defeated at the end of his political career spanning over seven decades,” Amarinder said in a statement.

Taking a dig at SAD’s Moga rally,he said that no matter how much hype Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal may create about mobilising people for the meet, the fact remains that neither of the two,Badal and his son have been able to identify safe seats for themselves.

“It is an irony that they have identified and almost finalised the candidates for almost all Assembly segments except their own. If Badal decides to run away from Lambi,as he has no other option,it will demoralise his workers and if he contests from there he is certain to lose, which obviously he will not like to. Under these circumstances, graceful exit is the only and the best option available for Badal and in all probability he will opt for it,” he added.

Add PTC broadcast to SAD election expenditure: Cong

Chandigarh: Stating that the stake of the ruling family in the PTC Channel has been proved,Congress MLA Jassi Khangura has written to the Election Commission urging it that the SAD be told not to use the channel for advertisements. “This channel broadcasts in India and to the Punjabi diaspora worldwide. Much of the programming is propaganda for the SAD. I request that costs of use of this channel for SAD promotional programming be apportioned to the party and its candidates during the upcoming campaign,” he said.
