An ongoing food festival brings the gastronomical delights of Delhi to the city
A melting pot of flavours and cuisines, everyones well aware of Delhis belly. Be it parathas from the popular Paranthewali galli or the lip-smacking Nihari gosht from the Jama Masjid area,a visit to Delhi is incomplete without a culinary tour. Looking to recreate the cuisine for the residents of Chandigarh,Indi Spice, the speciality Indian restaurant at Park Plaza Chandigarh, has rolled out a food festival called Delhi-6. Buoyed by the success of festival held on similar lines last year, the festival this time is plumper with a larger variety on offer.
The sizzling hot tavas dishing out kebabs and hardcore non-vegetarian fare such as keema kaleji give the festival an air of authenticity. Delhi-6 is better known as Old Delhi and famous for its kebabs such as toondey kebab, chicken burra and mahi tikka. These find their way in here as well. For vegetarians, bhutta kebab is a welcome change and tastes soft and flavoursome. The kulcha-channa we sampled, although low on spice, was worth a bite. Its a buffet spread (only for dinner) and the choice of snacks including the kebabs and tangy street fare will leave you spoilt for choice. But like us,it would be wise to save up space for the main course. Even in this section, its a good mix of non-vegetarian and vegetarian fare. We recommend the gosht biryani, served straight out of the handi, and the Nihari. The latter was really well done and the meat dishes definitely gave stiff competition to their chicken counterparts.
As elated as we were with the main course, the desserts didnt live up to our expectations. The mango kulfi had a strong acidic aftertaste that had us reaching for Agra ka petha for respite. The petha was fine. If you really must, end your meal with the rabri-jalebi instead.
The festival is on till May 11
