In a case of suspected suicide,a canteen worker at Panjab Universitys hostel number 2 was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Friday morning. 21-year-old Sunil Kumar had been missing from duty at around 9 am prompting a search by canteen staff.
He was found hanging from the ceiling fan at the hostel room that housed the staff members. The door had been latched. The latch was broken and his body lowered but doctors from the PU health centre examined him and declared him dead. His body was then taken to GMSH-16.
Sunil is reportedly from Karnal in Haryana but his family is yet to be traced. He had been working in the canteen for 20 days and was employed through a contractor,who could not provide details of Sunils permanent residence. No suicide note or cellphone was recovered from the room. Staff members here say that Sunil was cheerful and interactive and that he had no dispute with anyone, said hostel warden Harish Kumar. Students said that he had been serving in the canteen till about 8.15 am in the morning,before disappearing.
Though it appears to be a case of suicide,we are yet to establish the exact identity of the deceased,following which,we will gain clarity on the reason that led him to take the step, said the SHO of the Sector 11 police station,Gurmukh Singh.
