This one’s strictly for those who love to look beyond the apparent and capture the many unseen aspects of life in its many avatars, with their cameras. To go beyond galleries and exhibition halls, and to reach out to enthusiasts and a larger audience, is the aim of Tricity Photo Art Society (TPAS), a voluntary, non-profit organisation working in the region to promote photo art.

“This society is creating a platform for all photo lovers to achieve national and international laurels,’’ explains Vinod Chauhan, president of TPAS, at the inauguration of Dhristi 2015, an open photo exhibition organised on the eve of World Photography Day. The initiative began with two people, and now the society has 25 members, with Dhristi showcasing 120 works of 60 photographers from the Tricity, on varied subjects and compositions.

Promoting photography as a form of art and expression, TPAS is all set to reach audiences by organising photography walks, workshops, seminars and talks in parks, public places, schools and colleges, talking about basic techniques and aspects of photography and involving them in the art. The society is recognised by international organisations and is holding the first TPAS International Digital Salon, 2015, with people from 60 countries expected to participate.

“We want the names of our photographers to be recognised around the world, and this is the first step in this regard. We want to make hobby a habit,’’ says Chauhan, adding that the participants come from all walks of life and different professions, with a love for the art getting them together.

The exhibition is a showcase of diverse expressions, styles, angles, themes, techniques, and it’s a mélange of themes that you will view with unique perspectives. Human emotions rule the showcase, be it of love, sorrow, hunger, joy, monuments, the city, shots of nature in all its beauty, animals at play, off-beat locales and life in motion.

As part of the exhibition, three workshops will be conducted free of cost on fashion, studio and wildlife photography as well as the basics of DSLR.

Dhristi is on at Government Museum Gallery till August 23.
