The Canada visa process, which already experienced delays in recent weeks, has become even more complex due to the withdrawal of 41 diplomats and the suspension of in-person visa services in Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Consequently, students applying for the January intake feel a heightened sense of urgency.

Educational consultants in the field are advising students to apply by November 15 to ensure their spot in the January intake. Students are in a state of uncertainty, but most are heeding the advice of their consultants.

“If the fees have been paid, and all other formalities have been completed, we are still processing student applications for the January intake. I submitted one file on Monday. While some colleges have set visa deadlines that make it impossible to apply for the January intake, others without such deadlines pose no problem. Even if there are delays in visa processing, some colleges offer deferrals,” said Gurpreet Singh, an education consultant based in Kapurthala.

Another consultant from Pyramid Overseas, based in Jalandhar, said, “It’s not too late at the moment. We are currently processing applications and will continue to do so until November 15. We process 10-15 files daily for the January intake because some colleges will start their January intake courses on January 5, while others will begin on January 10, 15, and 20.”

“It’s not late since results are coming in three-four weeks. Even if they are delayed by five-six weeks, it will not be too late if students submit their applications by November 15,” noted another consultant.

Kamalpreet Kaur, a student from Jalandhar, applied for a visa for the January intake on October 27. She is keeping her fingers crossed as her consultant has assured her that she will receive the visa by the end of November or early December.

She stated, “If I receive the visa, my course at a Canadian college will start on January 15, giving me ample time to prepare.” She also mentioned that her two cousins are also planning to enrol in the January intake, and they applied for their visas just yesterday.

“Although visas are being processed in three, four, or five weeks, we will still keep a two-month margin when submitting the application,” said a representative of Speak Perfect Overseas, a Jalandhar-based consultancy.

Students have many questions regarding the January intake, and time is running out. They have been advised to apply within a week or within 10 days or consider waiting for the May intake. Tanu Kaur, an IELTS trainer and consultant, emphasized that students should not consider applying for the January intake beyond November 15.

“Even though I’ve heard that the visa process has recently slowed down, I’m applying based on my consultant’s recommendation, which assures me of admission in the January intake,” said Amandeep Singh, who also has a study gap of three years.
