Bus crushes woman to death; driver held

A bus driver was arrested on Wednesday in a hit-an run case. Police said,Punchu,who was driving the bus with the registration number JK 10-1893,had hit a scooter and crushed a woman under its wheels at the Kisan Bhawan roundabout. He was arrested from the Hallomajra transit camp.

The victim,Meena Thakur,was riding pillion on a scooter driven by her husband Rakesh Kumar,who escaped unhurt. The accident took place at 2 pm when the couple was returning from the Sector 16 hospital. The bus coming from Sector 43 hit the scooter which toppled and the couple fell on the road. The rear wheels of the bus then ran over Meena. The victim was rushed to the Sector 16 hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
