BTech student assaulted,robbed in Mohali

A BTech student was assaulted and robbed by around a dozen assailants in Sector 70,Mohali,late on Thursday night.

A BTech student was assaulted and robbed by around a dozen assailants in Sector 70,Mohali,late on Thursday night.

The injured Varundeep,a native of Patiala who lives in a hostel in Sector 70,was admitted at Civil Hospital for treatment.

The local police have arrested most of the assailants,who had fled with a gold chain,from different parts of Kharar and Ropar.

In his statement to the police,Varundeep said he was returning from the market to his hostel and when,near the community centre,two youths on a motorcycle pushed him from behind.

“When I asked why they had pushed me,the bikers got infuriated and called in the others. They collectively launched an assault on me,” recalled the victim.

After leaving him badly hurt,the assailants reportedly snatched his gold chain and fled the spot.

A police party,which reached the spot,shifted the victim to the Civil Hospital.

A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt),341 (wrongful restraint),356 (assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property),379 (theft),148 and 149 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the assailants.
