Brijesh Mishra, the consultant whose services were allegedly taken by the 700-odd students now facing deportation from Canada, runs a migration services firm in Jalandhar, and was raided by the police ten years back.

After being missing for several months, Brijesh has been apprehended in Canada and is now confronting criminal charges, as reported by the Toronto Star. He was held while trying to sneak into Canada.

Over 700 Indian students have reportedly received deportation letters from the Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) after their admission offer letters were found to be fake. The students had applied for study visas via Education Migration Services, located in Jalandhar, which is headed by Brijesh Mishra.

This is not the first time that Mishra has been accused of illegal practices. In 2013, he was arrested for forging documents to send students abroad. At that time, he was running an immigration company called ‘Easy Way Immigration Consultancy’ with other directors. His office was raided, and police seized cash, passports, and rejected files of students.

Police sources disclosed that ‘Easyway Immigration Consultancy Services Private Limited’ was an unlisted private company incorporated on 12 November, 2010. It was classified as a private limited company located in Jalandhar’s Green Park area with an authorized share capital Rs 1 lakh and and total paid-up capital of the same amount. This company’s current status showed that it had been struck off.

Then he opened another office called Education Migration Services near the Jalandhar near, Green Park, in 2014, which allegedly uses the name of a big company to send students abroad.

It is learnt that Brajesh Misha had also taken the franchise of a Delhi-based consultancy, which facilitates student visas for Canada.

Mishra charged more than Rs 16 lakh per student, including admission fees to Humber College in Ontario, but excluded air tickets and security deposits. Sources from the company claimed that Mishra kept Rs 5-6 lakh per student, and returned the remaining money when they took admission in some other colleges in Canada. However, most of the students were provided with offer letters for colleges where they did not study after landing in Canada. They were either shifted to other colleges or asked to wait for the next semester.

Experts say that dubious agents are taking advantage of the large number of Indian students who want to study in Canada. The district administration is currently checking the records of the company, as every immigration company must be registered and have a license. The police are also investigating the matter, but no fresh complaint has been received at the moment.

The counselor of the company, who is a Jalandhar resident, was not available for comments.
