High Court notice to PPSC
Chandigarh: Justice Ajai Lamba of the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notices to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and the Department of Home Affairs,Punjab,on a petition filed by one Gagandeep Singh and others. The petitioners have challenged an advertisement issued for the Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) Examination,2010. Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, advocate Puneet Gupta said the challenge to the advertisement is on the ground that while filling up the advertised vacancies of the Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) up to 2007,all reserved category seats stood were filled. There was no carry forward. Despite this,he contended, the 2010 advertisement showed a backlog of 10 scheduled castes five backward classes vacancies. This process is contrary to Article 16 (4-B) of the Constitution. This amounts to excessive reservation for SCs and BCs at the cost of general category candidates, Gupta submitted.

Ludhiana: Qila Raipur MLA Jassi Khangura has suggested to the Canadian government to grant visa quota to legislators in Punjab to avoid fraudulent immigration. In a statement issued on Monday,Khangura said: Canada should engage every legislator in Punjab as part of a campaign to promote various legal migration options to Canada. In a letter to Jason Kenney,Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister,Government of Canada,Khangura has suggested that Canada could tell each legislator to nominate one person every six months for migration to Canada. He said the country could also monitor the genuineness of sponsorships. Khangura pointed out that as there were 130 elected MPs and MLAs in Punjab, such a facility would result in a maximum of 260 persons migrating,a relatively small figure in the context of overall migration to Canada. But in two to three years, there could be a transformation in the public mindset with a decisive rejection of illegal methods, he added.
