UK’s youngest Sikh mayor has roots in Jalandhar village
JALANDHAR: Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi,whose father Jaspal Singh Dhesi belonged to Raipur village in Jalandhar,has become the youngest Sikh mayor in UK at the age of 32. He will be sworn in on May 17. On May 5,UK went to the polls for its local council elections. Tanmanjeet was Labour Party’s mayoral candidate from Gravesham in the southeast county of Kent.

Foreign support for Seechewal effort
CHANDIGARH: Punjab Foundation of California,USA has supported Balbir Singh Seechewal’s effort to block the flow of dirty water in the Kala Sanghia drain from May 18. Punjab Foundation,based in the USA’s technology hub of Silicon Valley in Northern California,in its emergency meeting held recently at Stanford University in California had made a conference call with Balbir Singh Seechewal and Dr Amar Singh Azad of Kheti Virasat Mission,Punjab to discuss the situation.
