DGP says Punjab rid of terrorism
Patiala: Punjab DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill on Tuesday said that special police stations would be set up in the state to deal with rising cyber crimes. These police stations,apart from cyber crimes,would also deal with complaints of economic offences,as complaints of cyber crime and economic offences were on the rise in the state. The DGP stated that terrorism had been wiped out and denied any threat perception to Punjab on the front of terrorism or Naxalism. He,however,said the police was vigilant to deal with any problem on this count and will not allow terrorism to raise its head again in the state. He said,according to information,30 to 35 former terrorists are based in foreign countries but are not active.
The DGP along with other senior Punjab police officers was in Ladha Kothi in Sangrur on Tuesday to take part in the 17th Raising Day of India Reserve Battalions (IRBs).
Planners discuss corruption in govt
Chandigarh: There is corruption in the government as estimates are inflated. This view was expressed by the district planning board chairpersons at a workshop organised at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration here. The chairpersons demanded that they should be given more financial and policy making powers.
Various chairpersons of district planning committees focused on financial and policy decision making powers and they stated that they should be made stake holders in the implementation of the schemes as these are not properly implemented.
Bhupinder Dhillon is political secy to CM
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has appointed Major Bhupinder Singh Dhillon as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in the rank of minister of state with immediate effect. Disclosing this here on Tuesday,a spokesperson of the Chief Ministers office said that Major Dhillon had also served earlier in the same capacity during the last tenure of the SAD-BJP government from 1997 to 2002. Born to Gurraj Singh Dhillon,Ex-Member Parliament,on July 20,1948 at Badal village in Muktsar,Dhillon after completing his education at Lawrence School Sanawar did his training at National Defence Academy,Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy,Dehradun and was commissioned as 2nd Lieut on December 21,1969. Dhillon took part in the Indo- Pak war in 1971. He also served as ADC to the then Punjab Governor Jaisukhlal Hathi from 1978 to 1982. He sought premature retirement in 1983.
SGPC to set up printing press in US
Amritsar: The executive committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday decided to set up a printing press in the United States to publish and print Guru Granth Sahib,as transporting the holy book was turning out to be a difficult task. The meeting was headed by SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar,who said they were meanwhile determined to hold a two-hour-long peaceful protest in front of the US Embassy in Delhi on December 23 to register anger against the turban search of Sikhs in US. Regarding the printing press,he said the same will be in North Carolina and also planned to open a Sikh Mission at Washington besides. He said a piece of prime land situated in close proximity to the White House in Washington DC had been donated to SGPC by an NRI Sikh for the Sikh Mission that will propagate Sikhism besides creating awareness among Americans about Sikhism.
