Award for Faridkot LLC
Ludhiana: The Local Level Committee,Faridkot,with the support of its NGO member Indian Red Cross Society,has bagged the National Award for Empowering Persons with Disabilities,2010. This annual award is given by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,Government of India,and was distributed on Friday by President Pratibha Patil at a function held in Delhi. Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Dr S Karuna Raju received the award on behalf of the LLC. These committees have been formed in all districts of the country for the welfare of people with mental retardation,cerebral palsy,autism and other disabilities.
Students rally against child labour
Amritsar: The students of Spring Blossoms School raised their voice against the menace of child labour,during the carnival organised by the school on Sunday. Various bureaucrats and dignitaries who attended the event supported the cause. Dressed as fairytale characters,the students participated in a caravan that passed through all main roads and localities of the city to seek peoples support in their struggle for implementation of the laws governing childrens right to free and compulsory education and abolition of child labour.
Special children felicitated
Ludhiana: Moga Deputy Commissioner Dr Vijay N Zade felicitated differently-abled at a function held in Godewal on Friday. As many as 11 children were awarded for excelling in state-level sports held in Hoshiarpur from November 12-15,while three were honoured for winning a state-level painting competition at Mohali. Those felicitated include Arjub who picked up gold in shot put and bronze in long jump; Asrhdeep,who won gold medal in 25-metre race and bronze in 100-metre walk; Gurpreet Singh for gold in in 50 m race and bronze in shot put; Amarjeet Singh; Mangat; Raghunandan; and Anil. All these students study at the Red Cross School for the mentally challenged. The DC listened to the problems faced by these children and their parents who demanded free travel facility in buses and free medicines. The DC assured them to look into their demands.
Youth Cong rally reaches Jalandhar district
Jalandhar: The Nav Inqlab Yatra of Punjab Youth Congress reached Dayalpur village in Jalandhar district on Sunday. District Youth Congress (Rural) president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary,along with a large number of members,block heads and workers,gave a rousing welcome to the team led by Indian Youth Congress general secretary Vikas Upadhayay who is in charge of Punjab and PYC president Ravneet Singh Bittu. A public meeting was organised at Dyalpur from where the yatra proceeded through Kartarpur for its final halt for the day at Saraikhas village. The yatra,highlighting the programmes of the UPA government,will proceed to Jalandhar on Monday and return to the city through Phillaur on December 11. Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira received the yatra at Dhilawan village in Kapurthala district on Sunday.
Dog show held in Moga
Ludhiana: The Shaheed Nacchattar Singh Gill Kennel and Greyhound Track Racing Club organised a dog show in Moga on Sunday. The annual dog show,which attracts participation from all over the state,is held in memory of former MLA Nacchattar Singh Gill,father of Punjab Director General of Police P S Gill. The MLA was gunned down by terrorists during militancy in the state. The DGP was present at the function in capacity of a host. The chief guest was Moga Deputy Commissioner Dr Vijay N Zade.
