Haryana to come up as trade centre: Minister

Chandigarh:The Haryana government plans to develop the state as a major trade centre by connecting Ambala in Haryana with Kotputli in Rajasthan. The foundation stone of one of the biggest road projects of the state,which is worth Rs 1,300 crore,was laid at Bhagwan Parshuram Polytechnic in Shergarh village in Kaithal,on Sunday,by Haryana’s Public Works Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala. “This corridor will start from Kotputli and would pass through Nangal Choudhry,Narnaul,Dadri,Rohtak,Jind,Kaithal and Ambala. The Centre will lay a railway line from the Mumbai Port at a cost of Rs 35,000 crore and it will pass through Rewari. A dry port will also be developed around this railway line,” Surjewala said.

2 injured after cop opens fire in ‘self-defence’

Jalandhar:Two people were injured on Saturday night when a policeman allegedly opened fire on them in self-defence. It is learnt that inspector Baldev Krishan posted at Phillaur Police Academy opened fire at Amarjit Singh and his brother Paramjit Singh,after the brothers allegedly attacked him. Both were admitted to Civil Hospital and later referred to PGIMER,Chandigarh,the police said. Additional Deputy Commissioner Police R K Sharma said a case would be registered after the statements of the victims were recorded.

Punjab to train 1 lakh youth: Sukhbir

Chandigarh:The Punjab government has finalised a comprehensive programme to impart employable skills to over 1 lakh youth of the state every year and ensure their placement or guide them in self-employment ventures. A high-level meeting under Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday night gave the final touches to the skill development blue print.

Sonepat police arrests 2 wanted criminals

Chandigarh:The Sonepat police was successful in arresting two wanted criminals,after an exchange of fire at a checkpost in Sector 7,Sonepat,on Saturday night. The police recovered four pistols,including a 0.315 bore revolver and three prohibited bore (9mm) pistols and live cartridges,from their possession. During interrogation,Pinana village’s Dixit alias Sikander and Sonepat’s Ajay confessed that a few days ago,they had stolen a motorcycle at gunpoint in Panipat and were also involved in the shooting of a Juan village resident. The investigating officer said the accused were produced in court on Sunday and taken into custody for further interrogation.

Hooda govt plans to improve fish farming

Chandigarh:The Haryana government is formulating a multi-pronged strategy to increase fish production in the coming years. The state government claimed that Haryana,which ranks second across the country in fish productivity (5,600 kg per hectare per year) plans to raise it to 5,700 kg per hectare per year,during the current fiscal year. A spokesman of the Haryana Fisheries Department said,“A strategy is being formulated to lay emphasis on diversification of fish farming from traditional carp fish culture to ornamental fish culture,generate employment opportunities in fish farming and provide financial assistance and technical know-how to people engaged in fish farming”.

Punjab to start internal audit of every dept

Chandigarh:The Punjab government has decided to conduct internal not just financial but performance audit of every penny being spent by various departments,boards and corporations,local bodies,panchayats and other agencies availing government money to ensure optimum utilization besides bringing an element of accountability and transparency in the working of the government. Punjab has become the first state in the country to introduce such an audit.
