Amritsar airport road to be widened

AMRITSAR: The eight-and-a-half-kilometre road linking the city with Guru Ram Das International Airport will undergo construction as part of the infrastructure strengthening of city. Deputy Commissioner K S Pannu said: “The road will be widened to a six-lane highway,with new bus stops,public conveniences,shelter houses and parking slots.” Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal will lay the foundation stone of the project,which will cost Rs 32 crore.

CPM wants ‘white paper’ on HPCA land

Shimla: With the Opposition Congress already raising questions,the Himachal Pradesh unit of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) asked the state government on Sunday to bring out a white paper on the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) on the grant of land where the association has constructed a new hotel — The Pavilion,Dharamshala.

On Thalassemia Day,65 donate blood

Shimla: On World Thalassemia Day,65 people including joined the movement to voluntarily donate blood for thalassemic patients,on the call of Umang Foundation,an organisation working for the rights of such patients in Himachal Pradesh. On May 7,more than 50 students from different schools,colleges and Himachal Pradesh University participated in a painting and poster-making competition to spread awareness about thalassemia and highlight the plights of the patients.
