Bhakra Dam: Water level breach capacity
Chandigarh: The water level at Bhakra Dam,on Wednesday,touched 1,680.57 feet mark. Its capacity is 1,680 feet. According to an official spokesman,the water-level at this time in 2010 was recorded at 1,680.92 feet. Over 36,142 cusecs of water was discharged from the Bhakra Dam against the inflow of 39723 cusecs. According to data released by the Irrigation Department,the water level at Pong Dam touched 1,388.62 feet,its capacity being 1,390 feet. In 2010,it was recorded at 1,394.01 feet. Over,11,809 cusecs water was discharged from the Pong Dam against the inflow of 18,949 cusecs. There was discharge of 610 cusec in Beas at Naushera Mirthal and 14,650 cusecs in Dhilwan. Satluj also witnessed the discharge of 33,274 cusecs from Harike and discharge of 36,453 cusecs from Hussainiwala. The water level at Ranjit Sagar Dam touched 524.47 meter whereas its capacity is 527.91 meter.
India could benefit from lifting of sanctions on Burma
Patiala: Bhaskar Mitra,Indias former ambassador to Myanmar,on Wednesday,said that India should convince the West (America and other European countries) to change their views over Myanmar (Burma) and lift economic sanctions on the country. Mitra was speaking at Punjabi University,Patiala on Myanmars Internal Situation,Core National Issues,Strategic Importance and Relations with India. He stressed that the sanctions were forcing the natural resource rich country to be ever more dependent on China. Mitra said,it would be politically and strategically beneficial for India,if the economic sanctions were lifted by the West.
NFL declares Rs 41 crore dividend
Chandigarh: National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has declared a dividend of Rs 41.70 crore for financial year 2010-11. The declaration was made at the 37th annual general meeting. During 2010-11,NFL had recorded a sales turnover of Rs 5,791 crore with a profit before tax of Rs 204 crore. NFL produced 33.80 lakh tonne of urea in 2010-11 achieving a capacity utilization of 104.6 per cent. The company sold 33.59 lakh tonne of urea during this period. While highlighting the future plans of the company,CMD Satish Chandra said the company has undertaken feedstock changeover of its three urea plants at Panipat,Bathinda and Nangal from fuel oil to natural gas. These projects are expected to complete by January 2013.
PPP to hold blood donations camps
Chandigarh: The Peoples Party of Punjab will organise blood donation camps at each district on September 28 to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh. PPP president,Manpreet Singh Badalwill will donate blood along with Abhey Sandhu and Bharat Bhushan Thapar,nephews of Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev,respectively. District-level blood donation camps will also be arranged.
Rains damage roads worth Rs 305 cr
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of Rs 305 crore during the current rainy season to roads and bridges. This include Rs 225 crore loss to the state highways and major roads. The loss to the national highways is around Rs 80 crore. The states PWD minister,Gulab Singh Thakur,ordered immediate restoration measures damaged by heavy rains in the past three months. He said restoration work was being monitored by the engineer-in-chief at the state-level and at zonal-levels by the zonal chief engineers.
