Nawanshahr: For the first time in the district,three engineering students have been booked by the Nawanshahr police for their alleged involvement in ragging. The case was registered at the Pojewal police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Bhupal Singh,vice-principal of IITT College of Engineering,Pojewal,against three second-year engineering students,Amit Mishra and Rakesh Kumar and Vinay Kumar. The complainant has said that he received a number of complaints from first-year students that they were being threatened,abused and asked to perform objectionable tasks by the seniors. A few first-year students reportedly boycotted classes on Monday in protest against the delay in action.

Teen staged his abduction: Police

The city police traced missing teenager Vishesh Khanna to Chandigarh late on Monday night and found that he had enacted his own abduction drama to pocket Rs 5 lakh from his father. The police reached the boy by tracking his mobile phone. He was found in a hotel and was brought back. Police officers said the boy had left home on September 24 to take an examination at the DAV College but did not return. On Sunday,the family received a ransom call for Rs 5 lakh to be deposited in a specified bank account,which turned out to be one of his friend’s. The police found that the boy was in the habit of borrowing money from friends to buy lottery tickets and was in huge debt,for which he hatched the plan to demand money from his father,Pawan Khanna,a small-time businessman. No case was registered.
