With the results of Class X and XII out,a large number of students are rushing to counsellors. From the choice of subjects to career options, students are flocking to counsellors to solve their queries.
Puneeta Singh,a counsellor at the Carmel Convent,Sector 9,said,We conduct aptitude tests for students of Class VIII,IX and X. Based on that, students are counselled on what subjects they should take up after Class X.
While there is a changing trend with students seeking help, many times it is parental or peer pressure that dictates their final choice.
Delhi Public School, too, has a team of three counsellors, who hold a weekly session for Class X and XII. They discuss choices in courses and colleges, apart from multiple intelligence tests and organising talks on stress management, peer pressure and so on.
According to counsellors, parents view about career options has also changed over the years. Also more and more parents are encouraging their children towards overall development rather than academic growth.
The main problem comes when attitude is different from aptitude. Suffering due to their wrong choices, students are often not able to cope up with their respective courses. Even if they score well, they are not satisfied, said counsellor Krishan Kumar.
