A blast at a scrap dealer’s shop in Jalandhar’s Santokhpura area claimed one life and injured two people on Sunday. A blast occurred at a scrap dealer’s shop in Punjab’s Jalandhar on Sunday, resulting in the death of a man and injuries to two other people, the police said. The explosion was so powerful that the window panes of nearby houses shattered, and residents reported hearing the sound of the blast from as far as 1 km away.
The deceased has been identified as Shivmangal, a resident of Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh, who was living in a rented house in Santokhpura in Jalandhar.
Following the incident, personnel from Jalandhar’s Police Station No. 8 reached the spot and began an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.
After the blast in Santokhpura, local residents claimed that the explosion may have occurred due to a gas cylinder, while others suggested that a grenade or another explosive material could have caused the blast since it was a scrap warehouse.
Station House Officer Sagar Chaudhary, while talking to The Indian Express, said the blast happened at the shop of a scrap dealer named Jawahar and that Shivmangal was his cousin. Shivmangal was hitting some crap material with a hammer when the blast took place.
Chaudhary said that the injured people had been rushed to the civil hospital and were out of danger. He said the police were yet to ascertain what caused the blast, which occurred in a densely populated area.
