BJP boycotts inauguration,BSP declares it open for second time

The projects include a multi-level parking lot,a Primary School and the overbridge.

Even as the BJP councillors boycotted the inauguration of the overbridge at Sector 17,nominated councillor Surinder Bahga has expressed resentment at his contributions towards getting the project started being ignored. Meanwhile, some BSP leaders went to the site in the afternoon and claimed to have inaugurated the overbridge after cutting a ribbon.

Councillor Surinder Bahga,on Friday, said he had played a major role during the tenure of former Mayor Raj Bala Malik in getting plans for several projects sanctioned. These included the multi-level parking lot in Sector 17,MC building,a Primary School in Sector 49 and the overbridge inaugurated on Friday.

Bahga rued that rather than his work being appreciated,he did not even receive an invite when work was started for the school. Bahga stated that though the area councillor had not contributed to the project, his name was everywhere, while there was no policy in the MC to promote work by an individual.

Meanwhile, the BJP boycotted the inauguration as it was local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal who declared the Sector 17 overbridge open.

BJP councillor Arun Sood said they could not have attended an inauguration by a person whose resignation they had demanded.

He further said that after Bansal’s statement about women and the scams involving him,he should not have been asked to inaugurate the overbridge.
