Beant Singhs widow passes away

Jaswant Kaur,widow of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh,died here on Monday. She was 86.

Jaswant Kaur,widow of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh,died here on Monday. She was 86.

Family sources said Jaswant complained of uneasiness in the afternoon as she could not breathe properly. She was rushed to the PGI around 3 pm where she suffered a massive cardiac arrest and died. Her body will be cremated at the Beant Singh Memorial in Sector 42 on Tuesday. She is survived by her two sons and two daughters and their families.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed grief over Jaswants death.

Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh said Jaswant devoted her life for the welfare of the poor and always stood by her husband who sacrificed his life for the safety and security of the people of Punjab. He said Jaswant was a courageous woman who worked hard for the Congress.

Leader of the Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Punjab Congress president Mohinder Singh Kaypee,too,mourned her death.
