Congress candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections Pawan Kumar Bansal addressed a series of meetings in different parts of the city here on Sunday.
Bansal held meetings at Sectors 26,27,28, 50 and at the Milk Colony,Colony Number 5,Bapu Dham Colony,Aman-Chaman Colony,Housing Board Colony.
Earlier,he undertook a padyatra at Dhanas. Speaking to the residents of Colony no 5,Bansal said the residents would soon be shifted to new houses and rehabilitated in his endeavour to make the Chandigarh into a slum free city.
He also said Rs 100 crore has already been sanctioned for the developmental work,which includes work in the southern sectors,including parks,health care centres,swimming pools and other infrastructure.
In a meeting at Sector 27 and Sector 28,Bansal pointed out that the funds procured in the last five years has resulted in the city making four-dimensional progress,with a series of beautiful parks coming up and immense improvement in the roads,supply of power and potable water.
At the Bapu Dham Sector 26 meeting,Bansal said a cricket academy in a government school has already been set up with the help of a non-governmental organisation (NGO),which will attract girl students towards the sport.
Residents will be able to obtain loans more easily to run their businesses once he is voted to power,added Bansal.
Area Councillor Devinder Singh Babla also spoke on the partys commitment towards the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden.
Dhawan inaugurates blood donation camp
BSP candidate Harmohan Dhawan inaugurated a blood donation camp at the SD Senior Secondary School at Sector 24 on Sunday. The camp was organised by an NGO Sahara Yuva Jan Sewa. Around 100 people donated blood under the guidance of the blood donation unit of Sector 16 General Hospital. Later in the day,Dhawan performed a havan at Colony no 5. He interacted with the people of the colony,heard their problems and assured them of every possible help. In the evening,Dhawan addressed a gathering at the village of Hallomajra and seeked their blessing and support for the forthcoming Lok sabha elections.
Footpath workers extend support to BJP
A large number of footpath workers joined the BJP in a function held in the party office at Sector 33 here on Sunday. Party president Kamla Sharma and candidate from the city Satya Pal Jain welcomed and presented them with colourful scarves with the party emblem.
Jain said if voted to power,he will ensure that all footpath workers get identity cards. Jain added that a similar promise had been made by the Congress candidate before the last elections,who is now a union minister. His five-year term has almost ended and he is still to fulfill his promise,he said. President of the Footpath Workers Ekta Samiti,Ram Milan Gaur,assured of his support to the party.
Meanwhile,the SC/ST Cell of BJP organised a protest in Mauli Jagran against the alleged casteist remarks passed by Congress leader H S Lucky. While Lucky has received a clean chit from the UT police,cell members expressed dissatisfaction on the decision.
Addressing a meeting of the chartered accountants cell of BJP,Jain emphasised the need to work out an education policy for Chandigarh. Cell convenor Tarsem Garg referred to various issues,including bad governance,slow development,unemployment,misuse of government machinery and the meltdown.
