Folllowing BJPs stand that it will oppose a resolution in the state Assembly seeking clemency for convicted Khalistan militant Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar,a non-committal Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Saturday that other parties, including the Congress, will be consulted on the issue.
Earlier, while campaigning for SGPC elections,Badal had spoken about brining such resolution in the Assembly, despite Punjab BJP in-charge Shanta Kumar opposing the move.
While evading a direct reply on the issue,Badal said a resolution can be beneficial only if it can be passed in the Assembly.
He,however, told mediapersons: Personally,I feel that clemency should be granted to Bhullar.
Asked about Patit Sikhs voting during SGPC elections,Badal claimed that the chief commissioner of Gurdwara Elections was responsible for such irregularities. Objections should be raised before the Gurdwara Commission at the time of making if the voters list,he added. Claiming that SGPC elections were free and fair,Badal said: All observers were from Haryana and none reported any wrongdoing.
About Supreme Courts decision to reject Punjabs plea against the construction a toe wall by Haryana along the Hansi-Bhutana canal,Badal said that the order has not affected the core issue raised by the Punjab government, challenging the legality of the canal.
When asked about the announcement that PPP president Manpreet Badals father Gurdas Badal will contest the 2012 Assembly elections from Lambi,Badal said: As I know it,Gurdas will not contest from there.
Saying that he still had great love for Manpreet,Badal added: I pity Manpreet for committing a blunder and political suicide by leaving the party. It had also reflected in the SGPC election results in Giderbaha constituency,as Manpreet was not there in the scene.
