Baba Pritpal Singh arrested

Following a tip-off,a special investigation team comprising Inspector Hardit Singh,Inspector Amanjot Singh and Inspector Prem Chand nabbed the high profile accused,who reportedly has political links.

Chairman of the Shiromani Sant Khalsa International Foundation,Baba Pritpal is a granthi in Gurdwara Gur Sagar Sahib.

Baba has been on the run since July 21,2009,when his last bail plea in a cheating and forgery case was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Baba allegedly forged signatures of one Kamaljit Kaur and sold her property for Rs 1.2 crore on basis of a fake General Power of Attorney. He was booked in the case on May 20,2008.

On December 17,2009,the Chandigarh Police had declared a reward of Rs 25,000 for any information leading to the arrest of Baba.

Earlier,the police had invited flak from the High Court for its failure to nab him. On December 9,the court had summoned SSP S S Srivastva in the matter.

Then on December 19,SSP Srivastva handed over the case to SCIC,which arrested councillor Devinder Singh Babla and murder accused Whiskey,a criminal wanted since terrorism days in Punjab.

Baba Pritpal Singh was declared a proclaimed offender in the case on October 23,2009,after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court.

September 30,2005:Baba allegedly sold a piece of land (12 bigha,13 biswa) at Dera Bassi to ATS Company for Rs 1.2 crore. One of the land owners,Kamaljit Kaur,an NRI,discovered that Baba forged the GPA to sell the land.
May 25,2008:July 21,2009:Baba’s bail application rejected by court.
October 23,2009:After repeatedly failing to appear in court,Baba declared proclaimed offender.
December 9,2009:Court summons SSP S S Srivastava.
December 17,2009:Reward of Rs 25,000 announced.
December 19:SIT formed.
January 2:Baba arrested.
