Chandigarh:An all-round performance by Ayush Sikka (52 no and 2 for 24) guided Delhi Public School,Sector 40 to a 97-run win over Shivalik Public School,Sector in a league match of the UT Inter-School U-14 cricket tournament. Batting first,DPS posted a total of 189 for 4 in 20 overs. Nahar played a knock of 75 runs while Ayush remained unbeaten on 52 runs. In reply,Shivalik Public School were bundled out for a total of 86 runs. For the winning team,Rahul claimed two wickets for 20 runs while Ayush grabbed two wickets for 24 runs.
Amandeep takes first round lead
Chandigarh:Amandeep Drall of Chandigarh upstaged the Indian team players to take the first round lead at the Usha Eastern India Ladies Golf Championships on Friday. Amandeep,still looking for her maiden win this season,shot three-over 74 at the par-71 Golmuri Golf Club course. She was one shot ahead of Raksha Phadke and Usha Northern India winner,Millie Saroha,who shot 75 each. And behind them came the three girls,who did duty for the National team at the World Amateur Team championships in Turkey last week. Winner of Usha Southern India title this year,Gurbani,who was the best Indian in Turkey,was lying fourth with a round of 76,while a tire Aditi Ashok carded 77 and was fifth. Gursimar Badwal,the third member of the Indian team carded 81 and was tied eighth. Amandeep had just one birdie,but she was steadier than the rest and dropped two bogeys each on front and back nines. Raksha and Millie had two birdies each,while Aditi had just one birdie on the 18th. In Category A,Raksha Phadke and Millie shared the lead at 75 each,while Aditi Ashok (77) was the topper in Category B and she was followed by Ridhima Dilawari (79). In Category C,Riya Ahuja (83) led the field,while Arshia Mahant (89) was second.
Punjab rowers bring laurels
Chandigarh:Punjab team claimed three silver medals and one bronze medal in the First National Canoe Slalom Championship held at Sonamarg,Jammu and Kashmir from September 28 to September 30. Punjab team claimed the second overall spot in the championship. Gimnar Singh claimed a silver medal each in the K-1 Slalom (Individual 250 M) and C-2 Slalom (250 M team event) along with Ashwani Kumar respectively. In the Maraqthon K-1 (Individual 10 Km),Naveen Kumar claimed the silver medal while Gimnar Singh claimed the bronze medal in the K-1 Sprint (Individual 5 Km).
GMSSS-8 records easy victory
Chandigarh:Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 8 scored a 6-1 win over Shivalik Public School,Sector 41 in a league match in the u-14 girls category of the UT Inter-School Handball Tournament. In another match of the day,GMSSS-16 scored a 5-1 win over GMSSS-21 while GHS-41 registered a 4-2 win over Carmel Convent School,Sector 9.
Chandigarh scores easy win
Chandigarh:Chandigarh scored a 25-20,25-18 win over Army Punjab in a match in the Second Rajiv Gandhi Haryana Rural Premier League Volleyball Championship. In the second match of the day,Panipat scored a 25-12,25-18 win over Army ‘B’ team,Kalka while HSIDC scored a 25-17,25-13 win over Army 14 Rajasthan Rifles.
Sukhbir condoles boxers death
Chandigarh:Sukhbir Singh Badal,Deputy Chief Minister,Punjab has condoled the untimely death of former boxer and coach Kulwinder Singh,who breathed away his last at his village Alipur Khalsa near Sangrur on Friday. Badal said Singh’s loss was a great loss to the Punjab boxing fraternity.

Chandigarh:The Total Tennis Academy will organise the Manav Mangal Total Tennis Championship from October 6. The matches will be played in boys’ (U-10,U-12,U-14,U-18) and girls’ s U-12,U-18).
Prakhar claims second spot
Chandigarh:Chandigarh’s Prakhar Asawa claimed second spot in the Category B with a gross score of 305 on the concluding day of the IGU Northern India junior Amatuer Golf Championship being played at Golden Greens Golf Course,Gurgaon. Prakhar carded 12-over-par in the final round.
Saaniya finishes tied third
Chandigarh:On a day when Vani Kapoor lifted the title,Chandigarh golfer Saaniya Sharma kept her cool and moved to tied third spot along with overnight leader Smriti Mehra on the final day of the seventh leg of the Hero-WGAI Women’s Pro Tour being played at Delhi Golf Club. Sharma returned with a score of 73 to claim the tied third spot in the third round.
Hosts St Soldiers victorious
Chandigarh:Hosts St Soldier School,Sector 28 scored a 4-2 win over Stepping Stones School in a match of the North Zone CBSE Cluster XIII Football Tournament on Friday. Edwin Jones,Sumit,Pankaj and Norboo were the scorers for the winning team. In another match of the day,BSF School,Jammu scored a narrow 5-4 win over St Stepehn’s School,Togan.
