Work on the Rs 150-crore Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari border to facilitate trade between India and Pakistan is on war footing. Deputy Commissioner Kahan Singh Pannu, who reviewed the work on Saturday, said the ambitious project spread on 130 acres would be completed by the deadline of March 2011,expressing satisfaction that more than 60 per cent work was over.

Pannu said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had already placed orders for installation of necessary machinery, including high-tech scanners for customs and immigration departments, for speedier services at the border. He said about 150 trucks from India were exporting merchandise to Pakistan daily at present.

“With the completion of ICP,the infrastructure will enable ten times the number of trucks to pass conveniently,” he said, adding that with the commissioning of the ICP,the trade between India and Pakistan would get a boost and it would be beneficial for the development of Amritsar city, too.
